However,  There was a Dr Who [David Tennant] serial where they were in England for the coronation and watched it on TV with a lot of ordinary Londoners.

I saw that Dr Who episode. It did look realistic. Except for the fact that people were getting sucked into the TVs and being left as empty shells, of course. Not being around at the time, it's hard to imagine what it would have been like to see the first international broadcast.

The first big television event I remember is the news coverage when Prime Minister Harold Holt went missing, presumed drowned. I was only 6 yrs old at the time, so didn't fully appreciate the significance. I was more concerned about why 'Here's Humphrey' (my favourite children's program) wasn't on. Mum and I were sitting on the lounge and Mum was mesmerised by the unfolding events, but I kept asking when Humphrey was going to be on.

Thanks for all of the interesting discussions, everyone. It seems that most of us liked the 'Race for the Moon' and the advertising brochure (or were at least a little interested in that one), but not so keen on 'Space Adventures'. I have to agree that the first story in that one was ridiculous and the art wasn't great, though I still thought it was interesting for the Alan Shepard story. And I enjoyed everyone's reminiscences about the space race.

On to Panther for something completely different this week.
