Reading Golden Age comics on iPad?
« on: December 27, 2010, 12:39:05 AM »

I've been planning to get an iPad for my 60th birthday next May, and was wondering if any of you have tried reading Golden Age scans from the site on it? It sounds like it would be great for reading comics in bed or away from the computer, but are there any major downsides anyone has encountered? It ain't cheap, so I'd like to get some feedback from those who've been there already.

The iPad is ideal for reading comics.

Just perfect. Buy it, and enjoy . . . you will not be sorry. It is true that other companies have tablets of one kind or another "in the works" -- but at this point, Apple is far, far ahead. Microsoft talked up "Tablet PCs" for a decade, and never introduced a one that you'd want to use. You wouldn't want to read a comic book on a Kindle, or a Nook, or a Samsung Tab, or whatever it is that Blackberry is doing.

Sure, things will be better/cheaper six months from now; that's always true. But the iPad is fantastic right now. My Dad, who's 70 and hates computers loves his iPad. It just works.

Glad to hear you're so happy with the iPad, Croc. And I hope you're right about it being cheaper 6 months from now, because that's exactly when I plan to pick one up!

Everyone realizes that you can actually try out iPads in the store, right?

So, go in, surf to a page with reprints that can be read as single page jpgs or whatever, and check it out.
