New Guy With Uploads
« on: June 24, 2008, 10:29:54 PM »

Hello, all!
I went to the Heroes Con in Charlotte, NC this Sunday where I found out about this site. While there I picked up a couple of Captain Midnight comics which I have scanned and would be interested in uploading. (#'s 4 and 61)
I would appreciate instructions on how to do this.
Btw, in case anyone is interested, my user name comes from my other passion, movie serials. Powder Solvang is the villain in the silent western serial Lightning Bryce from 1919.
Thanks and best regards.

Hi P.S.,
Welcome to the site!

I'll look into getting that info for you.

But for now if you wanted to upload the books as cbz or zip files to a site like
http://www.mediafire.com/    or
http://www.zshare.net/

and post the links here I can quickly add them to the site for you.

Thanks for your offerings - both books are needed!
:)

Was it from me and Steven that you learned of the site?  I was there and passed on info about the site to several.  I am surprised at the number of people who do not know about this site or wowio.com that free legal download places.  I told several creators about wowio so their books may be popping up there for exposure.  narfstar JIM  Glad to have you aboard.

Thanks, Yoc and Narfstar.
I have e-mailed links  for Captain Midnight 61 and will get to work on #4 soon.
Yes, Narfstar, Steve and I were having a conversation about digitizing comics when you walked up and told me about this site. I really appreciate you letting me know.

Sounds great Powder.
But I never got any email about Capt. Midnight 61.  Who did you email it to?

Did you see my PM to you about the FTP I sent last week?

Holy hanna, some very nice but HUGE scans here Powder!
We find if you use a final page size of 1500 pixels in height you can get each page to under 1mb and still look almost as nice.
For example I brought the cover into IrFranview  http://www.irfanview.com/
Reduced the resolution to 1500 (ctl-R) and saved it at 95% quality level and got it's file size down to 788kb.

If it's Ok with you I can do the same on the rest of the book and share that on the site.  If you'd rather share the book as is then it would be in the two parts as you sent them.

++++++++

Ok, I don't get those emails Powder.
I'm only a moderator here - I don't have admin privileges or get their email.

I can't see why the FTP info I sent wouldn't work.
Other then to also suggest using PASV mode and port 21 if it wasn't in my PM to you.

It would be ideal if you were able to upload any future books directly to the FTP.
Please feel free to PM directly to discus this and anything else you might want to talk about.
OR you can just hit the little ENVELOPE icon under my monkey avatar on the left and send me an email directly.

Thanks again for your work on these!

Sorry about the large size, Yoc. I'll try to correct that in future scans.  :P
By all means if your reducing the size of the pages would help then please do so.
Also, I've sent you a pm with links for Midnight 4. The top of the cover is torn away but the interior is complete.
In the meantime I'll keep trying with the ftp.

Many thanks Powder!
I'm going to add your first book to the site after this.  I think you'll like it.

I'm downloading the links you sent me now and will work on them next.
If you are fine with how the first one looks I'll do the same on this latest one.

Nice work on the CaptMidnite61 btw.
:D

Take care,
-Yoc
