[Drusilla lives!]

I was thumbing through this comic the other day and just had to come back to comment that there's some really great 50s Kirby artwork here... a real outstanding effort on his part imho. Didn't get a chance to read any of it, but it looks wonderful... and the copy is in pretty good shape, with a nicely done scan job.

Kirby's artwork feels like it was increasingly influenced by Wally Wood--in particular with all the screwy science equipment.

Another thing I've noticed about Kirby is that his layouts became rather tame in the '50s and early '60s. This strikes me as odd, because one of the things I always credited to Simon and Kirby were the inventive layouts they produced in the '40s. Yet Jack seems to settle down in the '50s and produce the usual grid patterns like every other artist.

Then in the mid '60, Jack is again producing innovative layouts and really experimenting with the page.

I'm sure people who have studied Kirby and know all his background history would be able to explain why he went through these stages in his career.
