Looking for "Centaur" characters.
« on: June 30, 2010, 06:50:06 PM »

I'm looking for two characters featured in a Centaur Publications comic book.

The first one is either a thief or a former thief and went on a series of adventures that were both ordinary and bizarre.

The second character was more interesting. She was the protagonist's girlfriend and had a wider variety of skills than the main character. see was a jack of all trades former gun mole. The two characters appeared either in the Funny Pages or Funny Pictures Stories. Does anyone have an idea as to what their names were?

Neither one of them rings any bells, but I doubt that either of them has been listed on the Public Domain Heroes wiki yet--I suspect they come from the pre-superhero Centaur comics.  It's tempting to imagine that the former thief is Barton Stone, the Catman, but they never did get around to saying exactly what the crime he served 20 years for was (altho it was made pretty clear that he hadn't actually committed it), and he only had two adventures, which were exotic only because of his fashion sense...

On the subject of looking for Centaur characters, I'd still love to see some of the Mastermind's adventures, as well as the Western heroes Headless Horseman, Nighthawk, and Ghost Rider.

I'd be tempted to say the first one is Cat-Man as well... from AMAZING MAN COMICS #5, #8.

The second one... I looked through my stuff involving characters and found very few strong female leads with much if any skills (Zona Henderson was probably the biggest - from AMAZING MAN)
To be honest, the first thing that came to mind was a character from Timely who had a kick butt girl assistant. His name is Merzah the Mystic... assisted by Diana Derrick who from what I can tell was more interesting than the main character and very Zona Henderson-like.

Here is a link showing a pic of both Merzah and Diana together.

To be honest... there wasn't much that appeared in either Funny Pages or Funny Pictures Stories that was much of any good (My tastes) until the late part of the runs (So far as I know - Arrow pretty much being the exception).
