Public Domain 2019
« on: January 05, 2019, 02:01:14 AM »

It seems a lot of groups were prepared in advance for the Public Domain changes in 2019. Here is a good article about this.
https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/qvq99b/how-to-download-the-books-that-just-entered-the-public-domain?
This would indicate that there may be a substantial number of new comics available for CB+. Lets hope so.

Cheers

The publication recognized as being the first comic book in the format familiar today was Famous Funnies #1 in 1934. Had the publisher renewed the copyright (which it didn't), the comic would not enter into public domain for another decade. It was years after that before new stories were created specifically for comic books (versus repackaging comic strips). It'll be well over a dozen years before comics of interest enter into public domain. The majority of golden age comics are already in public domain due to the then copyright law that required renewals to maintain copyright. Publishers saw little market for the cheaply produced comics and let copyrights lapse. Not every publisher was that careless and that's why there aren't any DC/National or Marvel/Timely/Atlas comics here.
