Greetings to All
« on: February 09, 2020, 09:12:22 PM »

Hello everyone! I am a professor in North Carolina currently at work on a project dealing with war comics and other pop culture artifacts and special forces. I'm collecting a few representative issues of various comics for the project, and I'm looking for some particularly important comic strips -- especially the week of Neal Adams' "Ben Casey" starting 18 July 1966. Glad I found this resource and looking forward to what I can learn and find!

Wecome RB1962

Don't know if the Casey strip is here. It might be too late for this site.

But there are some Dell Ben Casey Books here.

No Neal Adams but Norm Nodell and Gene Colan are not to be sneezed at.

A big thank you to you. I seemed to remember that Neal Adams did some Dr Kildare too so I went looking.

This one has Doug Wildey, who is also no slouch. But what I need to thank you for is that I just found out DR Kildare was created by Max Brand. Man, was he prolific.

War Comics?

You can't go past Sam J Glantzman's COMBAT series. All depictions of actual battles and War stories.

Glantzman served in the Navy and his autobiographical series, USS Stevens which he did for DC is in my all time top ten comic series. Too late ('70's) for CB+ but has been collected and is worth seeking out.

Anyway, welcome and happy researching!

Hello RB1962 and welcome! I'm guessing from your moniker that I'm seven years older than you. I was in education too but I'm retired now which leaves much more time for reading comics books!

Hi RB1962.  Welcome to CB+  I'm not sure if this will be relevant to your research but British comics have a history of war titles and stories.  Commando is still published by DC Thomson, here in Dundee, Scotland:-
https://www.commandocomics.com/
Many covers here:-

Battle was a weekly tabloid comic:-

I can highly recommend Charley's War:-

Apart from Commando there were many other war based pocket libraries.  If you want more info, please ask.
As for Ben Casey, I'm assuming that is a daily strip you need as 18th July wasn't a Sunday.  Both daily and Sunday strips ended on 31st July '66. The Menomenee Falls Gazette reprinted the daily.
If you're going to download comics and strips to read on computer or tablet, you'll need an app. There are a few good free apps but it depends which system you're on.
