Preview Time

As we slowly emerge from under the dark cloud of lockdown, a number of interesting new productions are about to hit the streaming services. These are the ones I'm looking forward to:

- Perry Mason (set in a depression-hit LA of the thirties, the previews have a genuine noir feel to them - very different to the formulaic, though equally gripping, old TV series)

- Mexican Gothic (sounds like a cross between Hitchcock and an early sixties Mexican telenovela (not to be missed by the way). I also have the book on order by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

- Sex and Vanity (from the gifted Kevin 'Crazy Rich Asians' Kwan. Forster's Room with a View in a lighter shade

- The Old Guard (Charlize Theron as the ass-kicking leader of a gang of judicial vigilantes in this Comic Book adaptation - gotta be good)

- Brave New World (A new version of Huxley's classic. If the original wasn't chilling enough, this sounds even more dystopian)

- Mulan (Disney's version of the Chinese classic. If it focuses on action, it should be fun)

- Bill & Ted Face the Music (Could be brilliant, could be a disaster. Who didn't like the first two in the franchise, but that was 25 years ago. Steven Soderbergh directing? Not exactly known for his lightness of touch. Oh well, I guess I'll watch it anyway)

What are you looking forward to?
