A Thanks of Appreciation
« on: June 09, 2008, 03:49:51 PM »

Just wanted to drop this little blurb here expressing thanks to the scanners who have taken the time to learn the ropes of scanning and then take time away from their days to scan&post the many great books that parade across this site so often.

These time capsules to 'days of yore' are a pure art form and it is the group effect of the many that have and will have an impact on the future generations by saving these books now while they are still salvagable

before so many of them will deteriorate away like the others before them and end up

somewhere between nowhere and goodbye.

Don't we just !!!

Seriously i'm but a small fish in a BIG pond, there are some guys here spending REAL cash to get books to scan/share and I take my hat off to those gentlemen.

I also think a vote of THANKs should go to the many unsung heroes working to get the best from Fiche scans.

I realise that to some here 'fiche' is a dirty work but at the end of the day they are better than nothing and indeed helped fill in a number of gaps in the 'Planet Comics' set and are likewise helping to complete the Police Comics run.

HEROES ALL !

Quite true, Nigel.  And if some of us weren't using fiche, a lot of these issues wouldn't even BE here.  Thanks.

I have mixed feelings on fiche...  on the positive side, I am very grateful to be able to read some books (in particular, some books that are not allowed here), from the nosebleed end of the price guide...  on the negative side, they're just so damn hard to read...  and because some of them are scanned, albeit from fiche, they might never be scanned from paper...  This makes me sad...

Either way, having tried my hand at a fiche edit with Boy Comics 14...  ALL PROPS go to fiche editors...  them books is a stone bitch to make even halfway decent lookin'!

But, ALL scanners and editors have my thanks...  you are the reason I try to contribute what I can!

On a related sidebar...  Please, when releasing fiche scans, label them as such...  this will help those of us who try to buy the paper to replace fiche scans with immensely...  Thanks to Ontology and a few others for adopting the "Comic Name Here 101F" manner of labeling...  at some point, I am gonna go through my entire archive, and rename all fiche to that format...

Thanks also to Aussie, Serg, and Zog for providing an online repository for the Golden Age scans!

While I greatly prefer paper scans to fiche, I'm really grateful to have fiche copies until better versions can replace them. They often ARE hard to read, but at least I can follow continued storylines and study some incredibly rare comics that until now I could only dream of reading (such as the early Biro Daredevil and Boy comics). All the scanners efforts are greatly appreciated.

And boy, what a great site!
