The mammoth book of best crime comics
« on: July 21, 2009, 02:20:53 AM »

well i've been interested in these mammoth collections for awhile now and i finally decided to try one out.I can't say i was disapointed  because i was expecting mixed quality and that's what i got .The book is about half pre-code crime comics and half modern crime  comics.only 2 of the modern stories impressed,TORPEDO drawn by the great Jordi Bernet and Ms.Tree by Max Allen Collins and Terry Beatty. There is some great stuff included -Jack Cole's Murder morphine and me Alex Toth's Crushed Gardenia and stories featuring Will Eisner,Bill Everett,Jack Kirby,Johnny Craig,Bernie Krigstein, and Alex Raymond but i would have been happier if they would have skipped most of the newer stuff.

My library has a few of these.
I've never gotten around to trying one.
I did check out 'Big Book of the Weird Wild West' but that's a different series and is all modern stories.
I enjoyed a lot of what I saw though.
