(I agree in general with Andrew999 about the Roundheads - at least before Cromwell slaughtered all the proto-democrats and abolished both Parliament and Christmas.)

I agree with you about Cromwell. Despite his broad coalition having the right initial intentions - the Levellers and Diggers, for example - he soon dropped those and took the short road to tyranny.
