I have seriously thought about doing a comic with 1-2 new stories and the rest reprints from here. I wasn't sure of the legality of it though.

I don't know about the restoration process but it seems rather extensive.

I feel like each comic should have a theme: Horror, suspense, sci-fi, western, etc.

I have often said that Golden/Silver Age comics at a cheap price. I feel like ads would help cut some of the cost as well because nowadays publishers use the space that was used for advertising and cutting some of the cost for in-house ads (not altogether a bad thing as I love looking at what else the publisher has, just I don't want to have to PAY to see it).

Some thoughts.

'Begin at the beginning and go on to the end' - Alice in Wonderland.
1/ If this is a new section, how do we access it? If it's not just a new thread, I suggest add another link under the list in blue on the right side of the home page. For now, it makes sense to discuss it in the open forum, but if it is a keeper, it may possibly be something that retires behind the scenes.

So in the next couple of months I'd like to get some feedback, and work out the logistics. If we figure it is a achievable, then I'd plan to start in earnest beginning of 2024.

2/That's good thinking. You yourself or some volunteers , need to do some research on the current state of publishing. That would be the information needed first to decide whether the idea is viable. And here we are talking;-
Paper supply, printer supply and economics, available and effective distributors. That needs planning ahead to be sure you have the paper, inks and printing details in hand for the following issues.
3/ And of course, we are talking money, legal registration as a publishing company, budgets.
4/ So, why paper publishing? We are in an era where much publishing is on the WEB. That grantees world-wide distribution. The current generation does everything - and I mean everything - on their 'Mobiles"  - 'Cells' , to some of you. Including reading comics,
Here are the current Forum stats. As of this post.
80,528 Posts in 20,172 Topics by 55,002 Members.
Clearly, most just register to download and don't contribute via the forum.
But we have their contact addresses. An online comic/newsletter to 55,000 recipients who we already know are interested, might be a good place to start.
5/ This point is possibly a really radical idea. I think the place to start is to decide if this project fits within the intentions of the founders and volunteers. To that end it occurs to me that CB+ does not appear to have a specified mission statement.
I'm going to either do another post on that, or create a new thread on it, for discussion.
Mark, congratulations for opening this up. Nice to know that the administrator is a creative thinker.
Cheers!

Mark - This is the digital age.  Paper is dead and a resurrection of it is costly.  Publishing will not improve or enhance the site - I'm not in favor.

You could publish digitally on Amazon and they just take some of the profits, 30% I believe but it will get published no matter what. And for larger volumes, you can get Paperback and Hardcover editions printed.

1) We have a mission statement, it is on the footer of each page. But "To have fun and waste your time" is the unofficial one :)

2) I meant I have set up a new section here on the forum

3) I was looking at "Print On Demand" & distribution services. Not getting involved in the actual printing and shipping. But lol ....

4) I see us as an electronic publisher, so in my mind it's technically very simple to create a new series digitally. Like the "Compilations" section. I want to appear in paper!

5) I admit it might just be an ego thing :)

6) If it is series then should be able to run a few themes together. So genre, artists, historical, etc... So the  content mix is pretty much defined for each one. It is then choosing the best example. If that makes sense.

7) I think the "journey" of publishing may enhance the site. It is a project, (most) projects are good. (also see #5)

We publish books in print and paper. Paper sells. We're just not printing more than 3-10 copies of anything. We keep a few copies on-hand for conventions. Everything else is print-on-demand. After doing the math, I figure we're making the same amount of money as if we were selling through Bud Plant or Diamond, except we don't have to print several copies and be stuck with a few.

BoldVenturePress print-on-demand distribution is where I am coming unstuck.

As an example Lulu seems to have distribution sorted out ... but is very expensive. We have members and visitors throughout the world and I wanted them ALL to be able to buy a copy at a fair / similar price.

I am wondering if maybe we will have to use more than one printer, plus a bit of "manual" effort for the countries which "fall through the crack". If we can't deliver to any country (due to logistics) then I'd be unhappy to continue.
