There's something romantic to it, 2 deaths generations apart tied to one man and a holiday closely associated with death... it ends the way it starts--
the whole thing brings to mind the famous, grandiose Gotham City gangster tale "The Long Halloween" which, while it had some spooky villains, also had more to do with the calendar date than the titular holiday itself.
combine "Another Halloween" with Weird Mysteries 1's "Death Takes a Holiday" and you have somewhat of a blueprint for one of the greatest Batman stories of all time.
