The Owl - Gold Key
« on: June 13, 2013, 12:39:17 PM »

Would it be possible for anyone to upload the silver-age run of The Owl published by Gold Key? From what I can gather, only two books were released.

Apologies if Gold Key books aren't public domain (I got no clue) but I can see that Frank Thomas' original Owl is up.

Just look at that cover!

I have these but Gold Key seems to have done a pretty good job of renewing their copyrights so they can not be put here. They have a lot of books that I would love to put up but alas.

Of course I loved Magnus, Doctor Solar and Samson, scifi MARS Patrol, Tragg, Space Family Robinson and the back up series Aliens the single issue of Microbots. Besides all their licensed properties they had original  other type books done so well Dagar and Brothers of the Spear, Jungle Twins and the very funny Close Shaves of Pauline Perils. Gold Key put out some good stuff. Owl and Tiger Girl were GA revivals but PD by then.

Yes I knew that to be the case since I owned them at one time and I think I still have one of the Owls and the Tiger Girl one as well. Darn! I say.....

Hay....are you liking the artwork on those Italian books from the 1940's? Pretty cool I'd say.

PS there is a surprise waiting for Admin types in the usual sus. folder.

I guess I can appreciate variety. Even with some art that is not so great. Google translate says Torrent means torrent which is a fast flow and to me the art looks like everyone is kinda flowing not completely solid

It reminded me of the very early Batman, pre Robin days. A loose style with an almost Art Deco approach to it. That's all and the original appeal for me was the fact that you don't find original Italian super hero types teamed up in one book let alone 3 of them. True one is Ragars lover, but the Scarlet Executioner is not and he had a few books of his own. That was my only longing...missing the old Batman... Have a great weekend my friend.

I sure wish I could read Misterio. Looked pretty awesome and surprised it had a full out wardrobe malfunction.

Well there is always Paw....I think he's taking Italian class currently. I'm going to try some Google translation latter this week if and when I have time.

I got no response from some Brazilian new members at DCM when I asked about them doing some scanilations.
I need to talk with the Spanish 3 and French 3 teacher next year about assigning some scanilations as a project.

Sorry, My mistake. Ragar is what reminds me of early Pre-Robin Batman. Gotta love a cigarette smokin hero who sleeps with his mask on in his striped pj's. Mistero's artwork reminds me of real early 1960's Blue Beetle artwork @ Charlton. By the by...could we post Italian Fantasma D' Acciaio here? See attachment

RB up too late.

BTW, the Gold Key Tiger Girl was NOT a revival.  She was an original character.
