All seven issues coming up. This mag does not show up as being renewed. The publisher Black Shield Productions no longer exists and the name is now used by a different group.

Out of nowhere a narfstar scan appears before Thanksgiving. I found this laying around so off to the scanner it went. Some of the worst color registration, but enjoy it for its GA goodness.

Pulp stories
« Reply #979 on: December 26, 2012, 02:58:24 PM »

Thanks to Project Gutenberg I obtained some pulp stories that should be of interest.
Included is Constance Dunlap in One Shots and Black Star in Detective Stories and several Craig Kennedy stories in his own section. These are zip files that contain a text file.

Narf,

They are causing a minor problem so I have moved them to the admin section. That is just until I work out how we accommodate them. I really like the idea of having text stories, so they will be back!

I got permission from Jeff Nevins to carry the three Captain Mors stories from his site. Also the first 12 issues of the Spider are public domain.

Was Gold Medal division of Charlton sold? They were unauthorized and I think they are now orphaned.

I would stay away from these for now, as well as the Tarzan comic book series that Charlton published back then.  There was a period in the 1960s where it was believed that a number of Burroughs books had fallen into the public domain.  It had something to do with the Burroughs estate failing to renew copyrights on a number of his books.  Ace Books began reprinting a number of the books.  Then the Burroughs estate found out that the books were still protected by the copyrights filed when the stories were first published in the pulps and reclaimed the copyrights.
Since then a number of Burroughs' early novels have finally fallen into the public domain.

There's a book that looks at the whole convoluted matter of Burroughs' copyrights that would be worthwhile for us to look at.

Interesting to see Ogden Whitney (Skyman, Herbie) tackling a romance story.
