Great to see Hy Eisman credited here. He and Colletta DID make quite a team when they worked together!

Hy was one of my teachers at the Kubert School and he always spoke well of Vinnie Colletta.  They would put a good deal of more effort into these romance jobs for Dell or Marvel but the Charlton jobs they'd do as quickly as possible because those paid so little.  Lots of short-cuts taken in order to churn those out.  Unfortunately as family responsibilities increased Vinnie became more prone to taking short-cuts on some of the better paying jobs too.

FYI
Jim Shooter: "I'd love, just once for someone to give evidence that Vince erased a figure or a background out of laziness or any ill intent.. I acknowledge the possibility that he did cut a corner once in a while, since he was often called upon by production manager John Veerporten to deliver "ink on the pages" in three days because the penciler was so late and the writer made the book even later. The Jack Kirby Collector has published examples of Vinnie's shortcuts on Jack's pages at various times (figures erased or turned into silhouettes, for example).   What you say about Vinnie being called upon to do a rush jobs on issues that were running late is true.  However Kirby did not have a reputation for turning in work late.  Now it's possible that Vinnie was doing some of his Kirby jobs simultaneously with some other late jobs and all had to be somewhat rushed and thus suffered.

Vince certainly has his good and not so good points, Jose, but I don't think Mikey is going to acknowledge the negatives, no matter how well documented. In the spirit of full disclosure, I think he's related to Mr. Colletta and has an "agenda" rather than an interest in a discussion.

Peace, Jim (|:{>

I agree that Vinnie certainly had his good points.  Tex Blaisdell was another of my teachers at the Kubert school.  He was very popular with the students.  Just a wonderful guy.  He was going through a rough patch getting work and it was Vinnie that came through giving him some pages to ink.  That certainly made an impression on us students.
