The end page of "The Painting" short story provided the source panel (pg. 25 upper right) for Roy Lichtenstein's "Brushstrokes" painting (1965) and helped establish his brushstroke motiff that can also be seen in LIchtenstein's "Big Painting no.6" and "Little Big Painting."
