When does this story date from ? I assume from the " I Could Have Danced All Night " reference it's post-My Fair Lady .
Anyway , MORE , MORE , MORE of these Antipodean Steve/Mikes !!!!!!!!!!!
Boy , that butch haircut and slacks Mike wears...Where did the back-up/filler material come from ?
Yank comic books ? I can see where the re-lettering was done to put pound signs and corresponding words in .

Actually, this a NZ reprint of an Australian reprint of an American title of the same name, published by Eastern.
You'll find more colour Steve Roper in the Eastern Color section.

...Thank you ! Actually , I know that this is reprinted US newspaper strip material which never was printed in American-style comic books .
Briefly , a few-ish years back , I became interested in the STEVE ROPER AND MIKE NOMAD , as it was known by then , syndie strip in the very last months of its long run (It ended in 2004) .
The strip had a really weird history , with , like the Barney Google -> Snuffy Smith transition but more so , lead characters being pushed out of the strip by supporting characters who took it over more than once .
My arms are strained and I'm trying to minimalize computer use to avoid CTS, so I won't link , but try Wikipedia and especially Toonopedia under the names I've given plus also " Chief Wahoo " and " The Great Gusto " for the full story .
In the post-WWII years the strip adopted the glossy Stan Drake/Leonard Starr style , whereas , as the one issue of the Famous Funnies ishes you have shows , prior to Mike's introduction and Chief Wahoo's retirement it was drawn in this - uh , " Adventure bigfoot " ? - style , which is not so apparent on the cover .
Right now I can't seem to find the " by-publishers " category division . Was " Eastern Color " another phrase for " Famous Funnies " as a publisher ?
There was non-SR comics material in the issue I'm citing , I see nobody filled out a description for it .

Hi Walter, here's the link to Eastern Color:-

I can't help you with identifying the back-up strips in the NZ comic, as my knowledge doesn't extend that far.  Perhaps some of the others can help :)
Oddly enough, there doesn't seem to have been a British reprint of Steve Roper, perhaps because we used to get irregular shipments of Aus. comics, which came over on boats as ballast, prior to the distribution of American comics in '59, '60.  But the British industry was really complicated and perhaps I'm simply missing something.

...Thank you , again !!!
Just to repeat myself , there appear to have been no American comic-book appearances of the Steve Roper (also known , as you can find , by other names ~ including its earlier BIG CHIEF WAHOO identity) after its transition to a glossier style and the Chief Wahoo character completely leaving , let alone after Mike Nomad's introduction .
I finally started following the strip in this century , as I said in its last months , after the second Saunders , only the second credited writer on the strip , died , and last artist Fran Matera became solo-credited on it ~ though he used ghost scripters , including someone I'm Facebook friends with .

...It now appears that there were some American comic-book style reprints in the 80s , from Blackthorne Publishing ~ there were a lot of these (Often larger comic books , Prestige Format or similar .) during the 80s boom era .
