How did I find you? Typed in "Comic Books Public Domain" and up popped your site, 8th listed in Google!

I have been a comic book fan for along time, back to the mid sixties and have been accumulating them for years.

I have always been drawn to the books from the 40's and 50's, mostly I suppose because it is not readily available, and more and more expensive as the years go by.
I remember one of the earliest published comic book price guides from the early 1970's, in it it had Action #1 going for $300, by far the most expensive issue that you could buy.
I have read extensively on comic book history over the years. The first really comprehensive book was Don and Maggie Thompason's "All in Color for a Dime" that I read in the early 70's at our public library in Anoka, Minnesota. I just picked up a copy of this book a couple of years ago. It is a interesting look at those early years.
"The Great Comic Book Heroes", by Jules Feiffer, from the late 60's is a good book to read, about his reminiscences of growing up in that era. This book has been recently reprinted in the past few years, but without the color section, which originally had some great reprints of early heroes such as the very first Captain America story.
By far my favorite book on comic books has to be the "Steranko History of Comics", from the early 70's again. Steranko was originally going to cover the entire history of comics in six volumes from the beginning to the then present day of the middle 1970's. Unfortunately all that was ever produced (to my knowledge) was the first two volumes. These two volumes have a plethora of stories and anecdotes of the industry in those early years. They cover the pulp magazines and the early development of the comics to the late 1940's. Each chapter is devoted to a particular comic company or hero. The entire book is oversized, 10-1/2"x14" and is loaded with all kinds of original art. It is a wonderful read. These two volumes can be pricey I just looked on google anywhere from $20 to over $200.

Well that is enough rambling I guess. Maybe there is room for someone to write little histories of these comic book companies on this site? Or has this already been done??

Yours, Comicly,
Brian M. Minor
