I would like some information on how the ranks work on this site. For example, what would I have to do to be promoted from newbie to junior member? We all have to find things out for the first time.

I am not sure, I guess a few posts does it. The ranking is part of the forum software and does not grant any particular access rights. Admins can change them ... so as it's sort of still Christmas ... I'll make you a VIP. No badge I am afraid :)
