Bruce Gentry
« on: March 11, 2018, 07:35:24 PM »

Hi Everyone,  This is my first post on the Forum.  I am looking for any information about Bruce Gentry.  Which publishers, years published, and so on.  I have a hobby of working on motor scooters, and am curious about the motor scooter that Bruce rode in his stories.  Can any one direct me to the issues that  show him riding one, or any information as to which scooter he rode?  Any information would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you soon.  Cheers.

Sorry, aermacchiman, but I looked through all 8 issues of the "Bruce Gentry" comic book and could not find a single panel showing him riding any kind of motor scooter. Also looked through several loose strips I had, with the same result. If you want to check for yourself, I think all or most of the comics are available on this website. Let me know if you find some! Cheers, Bowers

Well, while there were only eight issues, the newspaper strip may have had more stories, so if you can track that down you might find something. The other thought was that he may have ridden a motorbike in the Columbia Movie Serial 'Bruce Gentry

A bit of Hollywood trivia! The actor who played Gentry in this serial was Tom Neal who was known for his short temper. He was blackballed by Hollywood a few years after this serial for very seriously beating the crap out of another actor, Franchot Tone. Fifteen years later he was charged with murdering his wife by shooting her in the back of the head. The charge was lowered to involuntary manslaughter and he was paroled after six years. Died of heart failure very soon after. Cheers, Bowers

Neal was also the star of Edgar Ulmer's Detour, the cult Poverty Row noir film.

Agree that "Detour" is Noir at it's best. I'm a huge fan of Film-Noir, where the heroes are no better than they need to be and the villains are no worse than they are compelled to be. Cheers, Bowers
