Hi!
« on: December 10, 2009, 07:56:57 PM »

I just joined and have some old comics that I would like to upload if Golden Age Comics does not already have, but first I have a question:  Where is the link from the message board to the upload/download pages?

Failed inside $this->usertype->do_login()
. If you believe this to be in error, please quote the above error and report this to the admin"

There was also had the script "{userdb_js}" in the upper left hand corner of tha page.  Oh well.

Please advise by email when fixed?

The log-in for the download site is currently not working.  You can still download books; if it gives you an error message go back to the download page, reload it, and try again.  Other than reloading once or twice I've never had a problem getting a book.

We are working to bring the site up to full again.

The question was about uploading, so the link is on the main site, just above the logo with Mary Marvel.

You can also upload files to a file hosting site (like Rapidshare or Mediafire) and post a note on the boards about what and where it is, if someone wants to upload it for you.

To sort of centralize the answers:

- To get to the main site, just head up to your address bar, and delete everything from "forum" on to the end.  That is, it's at http://goldenagecomics.co.uk - There isn't a direct link, probably because nobody imagined that there'd be more traffic coming through the forum than the download site.

- The download site is currently undergoing "issues," relating to logging in.  Very few of us can actually access it as ourselves, at the moment, and the elves are scurrying around trying to get it back up and running.

- However, to download, you don't need an active account, as it turns out.  As Eric points out, give it a shot, and reload if it doesn't work.  It sounds stupid, but it'll work eventually.

- Uploading, likewise is...half-problematic.  Uploading using the "upload" link (on the main site) banishes your book to Limbo, because our administrators can't access that area.  However, you can upload to a third-party site (Yoc likes Mediafire, Narfstar likes Rapidshare), and then post a message or send a personal message to one of said administrators.  They can upload without issue, thankfully, and can get the comic where it needs to go.

I hope that helps, some.  Meanwhile, welcome and thanks for volunteering the time of getting comics together and jumping into the discussion.

Hi Chopper,
Welcome aboard and thanks for wanting to share scans with the site.
Please note we can only host books that in in the public domain.  We cover this and many other common questions in
the GAC FAQ link.  Please read this and any relevant links on it (Publishers Allowed and Publishers Not Allowed).
Once you've got that covered if you still think you've got scans of something we are missing from the site please start a new topic and let us know what the book is.  Once of us can help determine if it's safe to host here and help with getting it onto the site.
As John mentioned, for now use an upload site like Mediafire to host your scan then send us the link in a message to Narfstar or myself in a public message like here or via a Private Message (the little word balloon under [applaud][smite] and beneath our 'posts' number will take you to that area.  A PM works best for getting our attention for sent links.

Good luck and enjoy the scans!

So ... can nobody modify the forum to include a prominent link back to the download site?

I have a complete run of Little Audrey on St. John's.  Is that allowable to upload?

Hi Chopper,
JohnC is our main status checker so I'll let him have final say on this but if you check here -
http://tinyurl.com/yevms2x
You can see Little Audry v1 (St.John) was renewed starting at issue #29.  See entry #51 on the above link.
So #29-on would not be allowed on the site no matter what.  We do have a Little Audry folder listing but when I try to upload into it as I test I see nobody including admin has permission to add to it.  This can only be set by an admin so I'm thinking GAC's owner Serj and Aussie felt the title wasn't in the public domain.  If that's true then they wouldn't allow any of this title on the site.
It's very odd as when you go into the actual St. John section of the site the Little Audry title disappears!  I can't get into the admin area to check on what is going on.
So for now I'd say 'hold off uploading those books until we can get the password problem sorted.'

But we appreciate the offer and hope you'll continue to enjoy the goodies on the site.  If you happen to find anything else missing please don't hesitate to ask again.

The last St. John issue of LITTLE AUDREY was #24 (June 1952) at which time, it was picked up by Harvey. I don't know if helps, but I thought I'd mention it.
