Sci-fi Pulp Locations
« on: April 01, 2020, 01:02:39 AM »

I'm not sure if here is the best place to post this, but here goes.

I've been playing a lot of No Man's Sky recently thanks to COVID-19, and I've set up a system for naming planets I've been to in the game, as well as ships and my bases. Planets can spawn as one of several types (or biomes), and my naming system names each planet after a sci-fi planet or location with similar attributes. For instance, a lush or paradise planet dotted in mysterious, barren craters, is named Pern.

Here is where I ran headlong into my main problem. I've tried flipping through the pulps here on my own and realized that it would take days, weeks even, to get the names of the locations and what biome they'd be. So, I had the idea to come and ask this large, wonderful community for a bit of help. I would greatly appreciate some help in sifting through the sci-fi pulps (and maybe the comics too) to find all the wonderful and strange worlds created so long ago. Below is the list of possible biomes in the game.

Biomes
Lush/Paradise/Earth-like
Barren/Desert
Toxic (full of fungi and has acid rain)
Irradiated
Scorched
Exotic (weird/strange)
Mega Exotic (really weird/strange)
Dead
Frozen

I may update this thread with the coordinates for the planets, for anyone who plays and wants to visit

Little secret.
Hidden away in the back of this book and the 5 others in the series, is CC Beck's , 'Adora of the planets'
https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=5434

Adora is queen , 'Of the Kaplan System, Seven Planets circling the twin suns Argo and Phille."  She rules from a planet called KALA. The Seventh planet, the rebel planet, is 'Myro'
The other planets may be named in the stories. Happy reading!

Be nice to see the system have a reality in your game.

Cheers!

Thanks for the website, Andrew! I've already started putting together the lists. Hopefully, within the next few weeks, I'll be flying out to explore and name them.
