Super Animals!
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:29:10 PM »

Lately, I've been getting into the Super (funny) Animals from the Golden Age comics.  I like superheroes, my girls like cartoon animals ... it's a perfect match!  So far, I know of Supermouse, Atomic Mouse, Atomic Rabbit, Space Mouse, Atom The Cat and Hoppy The Marvel Bunny.  Are there any other characters that could be found on the main site that I'm missing?

Thanks!  I never heard of Comso Cat before but was able to cobble together a half-decent checklist after poking around the internet.  I didn't see anything for a "Super Dog", but did run across a "Super Pup" from Avon on a blog "somewhere out there".

All those super-animals, I think we might need a super-pooper scooper and a super-litterbox :)

Neither Frank Carin's early 1950s "Space Mouse", nor Walter Lantz's early '60s "Space Mouse" had super powers.

Timely's "Super Rabbit" was a superhero, who stole a witch's ring from a dream of his, and put it on his finger to become much larger and stronger, and gave him the ability to fly, and magically made his caped costume appear on him, as well,  as was MLJ's "Super Duck", who took special vitamins to obtain all those same things.  Of course, there was also Terrytoons' "Mighty Mouse"(from Timely, St. John, and Pines), and Avon's "Super Pup"- who revealed no explanation how he got Superman-like powers, and how his caped costume would magically appear on his body.  There was Creston/ACG's Superkatt, who wore a baby bonnet and diaper, and Cosmo Cat morphed into "Super Cat" moving from Fox Features to Robert Farrell's Ajax.  Then there was Wiggles The Worm, who was a superhero for Orbit's "Taffy Comics", before it morphed into a teen girl's comic.  Then there was E.C.'s Freddy Firefly, whose powers were the same as The Human Torch, and Dimensions Publications' "Jet Pup", who could fly.  And, last, and probably also least, Fox's Clark Dogg's alter-ego: "Marvel-Mutt"! Who, as ordinary meek and timid dog-teen, Clark, was reading a comic book (probably "Captain Marvel"), and wished he could be a marvel, too.  Just then, a gnome appeared, and granted him his wish.  He went on to fame and glory in an extremely short superhero career (1 story appearance), to smash and apprehend the evil Doctor Beerstein, and the latter's mechanical maniac!

Avon's Peter Rabbit was changed into being a cowboy, using guns.  But he had no super powers.  Neither did Red Rabbit (patterned after the cowboy, Red Ryder.  He also had no super powers.
