Diabolik
« on: July 21, 2020, 06:42:18 AM »

I'm looking forward to the new Diabolik movie with spunky Miriam Leone as Eva Kant. It's been a long time since the Monica Vitti/ Mario Bava sixties outing and even more delayed by the virus. Now due for release in December.

The movie is helmed by the magnificent Manetti Bros who have directed some of the liveliest action-packed (and humour-laden) gangster movies of the last few years - Love and Bullets, Song of Napoli and the 17th Floor (Plan 17) - and the sci-fi Paul-like movie The Arrival of Wang.

If you have a strong stomach, you might also take a peek behind your fingers at Human Test and Fear 3D. Best of all though, is the humorous comic-book based Zora the Vampire.

I can't believe you don't know who Diabolik is (150 million copies and counting) but for a refresher:

I've seen the Danger Diabolik film starring John Phillip Law.
Long ago I ran across an article on this character which included excerpts from a photo comic. The panels being photographs of models posing as the characters.

Captain, I have the dvd, but I don't think it reflects the comics that well.  Same with the 2 Kriminal movies.  I managed to find a copy of the Mister X movie but I haven't watched it yet. The closest to the comics is, imo, the Satanik movie.
If you add in the Kilink films, there are quite a few supervillan treatments out there.  We'll see what the new Diabolik movie brings to the table.

I don't suppose you remember The Fantastic Three?

I saw this in a fleapit when I was about ten years old and was completely entranced. It led to a whole series of variable merit:

Oh, I do.  Aren't all the Fantastici 3 films a bit silly?  The Hong Kong one isn't by the same production company.
I recently watched a bit of the Hong Kong one, "Supermen against the Orient", but couldn't get through to the end.  The poster for it shows a female in costume.
Superargo is quite good and there are 2 or 3 films and comics featuring the hero.
Argoman and Superargo .  I've never been sure if they are connected.  Superargo seems to have a different costume slightly resembling that of The Phantom.  There were Superargo comics, but the issues I have is Spanish.
I have the Puma Man and Flashman films.
There are a lot of superhero/MMM movies out there.  Years ago, the late and greatly missed Mr. Goldenage sent some of us copies of mostly non-English superhero style movies.  There is a Hong Kong one in the mix, Miss Black Cat.  Also another Mexican superhero wrestler, La Sombra Vengadora.  Good mask.
I'm confused about Goldface, who I thought was an Italian comic character, but there is a film featuring him and he's another masked wrestler.  It's on you tube.
Time for more research.

Argoman was apparently a parody of Superargo - a parody of a parody so to speak - parody squared.

If you don't already know it, I can't help thinking you might like this blog:

There's a piece on Argoman from 2008

Fans of board games as well as fumetti have their Christmas mapped out for them with the new Diabolik board game:

Not being a fan of board games, I doubt I will ever play this, but it is intriguing.  I'll stick to the comics for now. Still missing 2  re-reprints, if you follow, up to # 50. Thanks to covid, I don't know when I'll ever get back to Italy.

First teaser is out for the new movie:

It doesn't tell you much but it looks like they've kept the sixties vibe - no re-imaginings - I'm pleased about that.

Movie released on New Year's Eve
