How often have we seen this in grade B-C sci fi movies?
« on: July 29, 2020, 07:11:44 PM »

Hello. Have you been keeping up with recent news releases?
They have discovered that a Mold growing around Chernobyl feeds off hard radiation. The more radiation it absorbs the more it grows. The bright idea that first came to their minds is that this stuff would be perfect for shielding space craft and space stations from the radiation of space travel. Just coat the hull of the craft and let it grow.
I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

Don't get me started on recent studies on how Bat DNA could make humans immune to viruses. Detective Comics covered that quiet well with the Batman super Villian "Man Bat".

Well, here's another one from B Grade SF movies.
People in some states in the US have recently received anonymous packets of seeds - from China. They haven't yet figured out what grows from the seeds and the government have warned people not to plant the seeds and to hand them in. There is some suspicion that it could be a plant bio-weapon.
Triffids, anyone?

Scientists reactivated microbes that have lain dormant on the sea floor for 100 million years. What could possibly go wrong?

Everybody loves an invasion conspiracy. However the seed packets seem most likely to be unsolicited junk "transactions" designed to game online auction/sales systems. You can find the scam described online. Before the seeds appeared, random people were receiving junky merchandise they never ordered...same scheme. Still it'd be stupid to plant the things without knowing what they are.

I know you're all going to say that Invasion of the Bodysnatchers is the best invasion film, but I think Quatermass 2 beats it, either the BBC serial or the Brian Donlevy movie adaptation. Here's the trailer:-

This is the complete BBC serial.  Much slower pace:-

That opening of the radar trucks or screens has been used a few times, Invasion; Dr Who, the first Jon Pertwee serial and Night Caller From Outer Space.

Then there was V - about which here.

Interestingly,

Both of these shows inspired Comic Versions.

I think I prefer 'The Invaders'

Cheers!
