NotesThis comic collects a serial from The Australian Boy Fortnightly retelling the history of the Kelly Gang. It's written by James Jerome Keneally (JJ Keneally) and drawn by Stan Ballard. The serial started in the September 1954, with this collection published in 1956. Both the serial and the collection were published by Standard Newspapers. I've included the cover of the issue of Australian Boy Fortnightly when the serial commenced (it was usually not mentioned on sunsequent issues).

James Jerome Keneally was an Australian journalist and trade unionist, and was one of the original members of the Australian Labor Party. His most famous work is The Inner History of the Kelly Gang and Their Pursuers, a seminal work of Kellyana, originally self-published in 1929, it has had 9 editions. It has been much plagiarised, although The Authentic Story of the Kelly Gang was authorised to use the book as its basis by his estate (Keneally died a few years before it was adapted in comic book form). The Inner History remains a seminal work on the Kelly Gang.

Stan Ballard was a commercial artist and portraitist who produced a couple of serialised comic stories for the Australian Boy (later the Australian Boy Fortnightly), including The Authentic Story of the Kelly Gang, based on JJ Keneally's book. He is not known to have otherwise produced any comics or cartoons.
