Harlan Ellison at Albacon, Glasgow, 1985

Long ago on a planet that seems to me now completely alien, Glasgow was a hotbed of fandom, both comics and S.F.  The 1985 version of Albacon - an annual S.F. con, had Harlan Ellison as guest of honour.
Horselover Fat on his blog posted this recording of Mr. Ellison's speech.  For those who fancy a listen, it's in various parts on this site:-

Please be aware there is adult humour and language and anyone who is uncomfortable with that should perhaps avoid it.
For the rest of you, enjoy it.

Back in the 80's Ellison visited Australia, as someone who had read anything of his I could find, including his opinion pieces on TV, Science fiction, Politics and Culture, I saw him speak to a small audience in Adelaide.
Not sure I feel the same way about his work now. A friend of mine, who was and still is a hard-core Science Fiction fan, was involved in showing Ellison around and taking care of his needs. He has an interesting story to tell.
But Ellison had a great love for comics, wrote some and socialized with comic creators.

Cheers.
