I like Fawcett as well. Always had a bit of a "thing" for Mary Marvel. However, being exposed to some great old GA books that I discovered on GAC, I am really enjoying America's Best Comics, Exciting Comics and Black Terror. Those weren't all by the same publisher(I don't think)... but that's what I'm digging right now.

I just went back and checked. All those titles were printed under the banner of Better/Nedor/Standard/Pines Publications. So I guess they are all from the same publisher.

   Quality.  Their artists lived up to their name, although I don't think that's true for some of their writers.

Pretty sure just about every red-blooded comic reading male (or female?) did...

 Quality is always my first choice, with Fawcett running a distant second place, however, most any publisher represented here published something worth reading with very few exceptions.

Quality not only had same great characters (Plastic Man, Blackhawk, Doll Man, Kid Eternity, Captain Triumph, Black Condor, etc.) it also had some wonderful obscure characters (the Whistler, Scarlet Seal, Dragon, the Voice, Ace of Space, Blimpy, etc.) who were highly original and entertaining. Basically, Quality produced very little work that wasn't among the first rank, and they had writers who could tell complex, intriguing stories in the space of five pages without making them seem contrived or curtailed. I doubt we'll ever see the likes of a single publisher who had so much to offer again.

GAC opened my eyes to the fact that DC & Marvel were out produced in the superhero department by Quality, Fox, MLJ, and Nedor. It is just that when the 1960s hit, DC & Marvel were still standing as it were, and could begin molding the history to fit a mythological story pleasing to their positions. Stan Lee knew what he was doing with his "House of Ideas" campaign, although the truth was closer to "House of Borrowed Ideas".

I think my favorites are MLJ, Better/Nedor, Fawcett and Quality. They are all pretty good in my opinion. Although of all the characters I think Captain Marvel is my favorite. I don't know why I like Captain Marvel so much. He seems to have a "good guy" image to me.
What's funny is that when the live action show was on in the '70's I thought the characters name was Shazam.

My favorite publisher is "Centaur" mainly because of the company's history rather than what they produced, although they did have a nice group of heroes.

Let me put in a good word for ACG; although their output was not prolific it was consistently excellent.  If you've never read Cookie, I'm envious because you have a real treat coming.

I tend to forget ACG but I love their horror/sci-fi weird series. I really enjoy Herbie and Nemesis though.

I forgot to mention my love for both Nemesis and Magicman as SA oddities. They were better drawn than many of the other SA back seat superheroes

Nemesis was drawn by Chic Stone, who also inked some Kirby. I have the original art to a Archie's Madhouse Capt. Sprocket story and supposedly it's by Chic Stone.
Magicman was drawn by Pete Costanza who also did lotsa Fawcett art.

He did quite a bit for ACG. I tend to think of him and Ogden Whitney as the archetypal ACG artists.

I have to admit that Fawcett books have never really grabbed me. I grew up in the 50s, but DC had forced Captain Marvel out of business before I started reading comics and I just never ran into many Fawcett books as a kid. Much Fawcett non-superhero output strikes me as only one notch above Charlton.

Quality is probably my all-around favorite publisher, but Fiction House, Fox, Harvey, Hillman, Lev Gleason, Prize, and St. John all published some mighty good stuff. (My list is slanted away from super heroes, as that is not my favorite genre. GAC has broadened my appreciation of some of the old super heroes, but a little goes a long way for me.)
