Cosplay

I taught Vietnamese (and Chinese) students for many years and I know first-hand their love of manga and anime (Detective Conan seemed to be the all-time favourite).

Most of all, I was constantly surprised by their love of cosplay - something I've never really understood myself (although I could make a good shot of being Bunter):

What cosplay character would you be? (allowing for a bit of judicious body-shaping if necessary)

Cosplay continues to amaze me. At marts and cons up here - when there were actual, real cons and we could actually meet friends and talk comics - there has been a lot of cosplay attendees and a lot of organised competitions.  While there were lots of Doctors, Batmen, the occasional Thor, it seemed to be more females involved, many of them pitching up as Japaneses characters that I simply did not recognise. But standouts were the Black Canary, Zatanna, and Wonder Woman outfits.
Apart from when I was a wee boy and went about shouting KIMOTA and tying an old towel round my neck with one of those dome shaped pencil sharpeners over my mouth to pretend I was a thunder rider, that was it.  I suppose I'd fancy trying a Black Terror or Phantom outfit, but the lack of height, muscle and youth would be considerable drawbacks.
Bunter, eh!!!  Well, I suppose, if a person is un peu rotund, they could also be Fatman The Human Flying Saucer, not that I'm suggesting a chap is a porpoise, I hope you understand ;)

Ebeneezer Scrooge!  An old codger who finally sees the light, and gets a chance at redemption before he dies!   8)

Well, I don't have the body shape for a known Superhero. Puck of Alpha Flight is close, but with a bit more height and a good deal less hair. Or maybe Old Wolverine.

No, Armstrong of Archer and Armstrong, but on a diet and with grey in the beard. I could go to a con and drink beer all day and stay in character. Sounds good.

Cheers!

And hey Andrew, what's your choice?

In everyday street clothes I'd pass for the next Dr Who. After all they may get tired of PC accomodations and go hog wild with conformity.
These days most sci fi TV characters dress like they raided the bins at Goodwill.
I'll have to brush up on my fake Scottish accent.

Really though I'd gathered some stuff for a Men into Space Colonel McCauley moon suit, but lost interest.

Well, the last time I went to a rock and roll bar show on Halloween, I wore my gray trenchcoat & wide-brimmed fedora, and told anybody who asked I was dressed as MIKE HAMMER.

Once went to a party in a dressing gown and slippers and a pipe and said I was Hugh Hefner. A bit ambitious I think!
