Most fanzines were not copyrighted so are public domain.

I wonder if someone will post the "Star-Studded Comics" fanzine? Or is that not PD.
Also where should I post if I want to ask what issues of 4 Favorites, Super-mystery Comics and Airboy comics were recently put up?

Here's a listing of the latest posts

If you want older than that I'd just go to the relevant page.  For example, Airboy is at

There are upload dates on each file

It is great to see all of those Batmania zines loaded up.  If I could download these days I would enjoy reading them.  Many of the early zines were ditto and they fade.  Art by Biljo White and Ron Foss is too good to lose.  Early Alter Ego zines are a treat too.  I have the Jerry Bails scans which he sent to GCD fans for a small donation but I never thought they wanted the scans donated to other sites.  However, I think all of these zines should be available to fans and many are fading to an unreadable level.  People should scan their best copies and donate.  Good luck with this endeavor.

You must have downloaded some big files bb to eat up your bandwidth so fast. You still have plenty of files but very little bandwidth. The month will soon be over and you will be reset.

Unfortunate. Is Dr. Bails' wife still alive to authorize GAC use of these? Important works such as these should see the light of day  :(  Regardless, God Bless Dr. Bails and those who walked with him.

Drusilla Lives!,

I just checked and you have a full battery of bandwidth available...it boils down to the situation that while one can register with any name that they please, using a  "," "!" etc., will sometimes render them inert from being able to download in almost all cases. "." &  "-" are SOMETIMES okay, but "_" is not -- I have no idea why it works this way, but I bet it has to do with the people who make the software that the forum runs on.

So, while I am sorry that you have these problems, the "!" in your user name means that the download site does not even recognize you as a member.  :-\  Hopefully this is an issue that Janus can have looked into.

For now, my suggestion is to consider a different name without characters in it at all, because there is so much good stuff on the download site it pains me that you can't access any of it at the moment.

I do apologize for the trouble this is causing you.

I've actually been studying this, Narf (cause I'm a nerd) -- it is really weird. Dr. Mindshadow was all but shut out of the download site until Mindshadow solved the issue. I'm really hoping that this can be resolved in time.

Thanks for the early fanzine uploads, narf and jon!

(& a tip of the hat to Jay Lynch for Nard and Pat.)

Were you guys in fandom back in the early days when these fanzines were published?

When I get a roundtuit, maybe I can scan Star Studded Comics -- I think I have all but 1 issue.

And if anyone has the early Fantasy Illustrated fanzines, I'll LOVE to have scans of those! (I still have 3 or 4 issues.)

I'd also REALLY" like to have a scan of Don & Maggie Thompson's issue of Comic Art with the long Carl Barks article.
I used to have it, loaned it to Bruce Messick (RIP) (an early Richmond VA comic shop owner and local comicon doer), and he somehow took temporary control of my mind and got me
to agree to let him keep it.

Also I think I have the missing issues of Alter Ego (less than #10).

I also have All Stars #1 and #2.

Also Promethean Enterprises, the issue with he foldout Robert Williams cover.

JVJ, I'm all but sure Promethean Enterprises is copyrighted -- can you get us permission to scan for posterity?

I also have an issue of Sata -- the Satanist (mu ha ha) comic stripzine.
(Satanist in Sata's case is ERB Frazetta-Foster style comics with semi-nekkid pretty gurls by Adkins, Pearson and Ivey if mem. serves.)

I have many other 1960s fanzines as well.

Bob Lewis here in Richmond VA has probably the biggest collection of fanzines of anyone I know. He was Chief Batmanian of VA back in 1965, owns and operates
Richmond Book Store, is a VCU art prof (I think). Way back, I traded him many of my miscellaneous late-1960s to early 1970s fanzines.
(One I regret trading him had a strip by Wendy Pini, then Fletcher.)

(I also have some nice early Star Trek fanzines, from when the show was still on the air. Probably not appropriate here tho.)

More fanzines, please!

Thanx again!
Bob

You came to the same conclusion as I boox. When I tried to look up Drusilla lives! it said no user. When I looked up just dru it showed up with others. Drusilla lives! please pm Janus as you can not register with more than one name. So he will need to erase you and let you come back as Drusilla lives

Bob we would love to have any "clean" pd fanzines you might have. I only have a couple more if I can locate them. I was a fan but not in fandom at the time. I did however see an article from Jon in one of the ones uploaded.

What do fanzines have to do with Golden Age Comics, guys? They are pretty much 100% post-1960 and really don't belong here. And no, you don't have my permission to scan Promethean #5 or any other issue. And I'll guarantee you that no issue is PG-13, too. I think we should stick with GAC and leave the other stuff to other sites.

ps. What on earth makes you think that just because someone owns a copy of something that it bestows some right to scan and post and share it? These are not "orphaned works" and most of the people who made them (or their families) are still around. It's wrong to take other people's stuff and just copy and post it just because. What if I had ten copies of every issue of Promethean that I was saving for my retirement and your scans destroyed my eBay market? I think I'd be royally pissed at you.

Hey Jim
Janus has expressed a desire to expand the site to include other PD material. We do want to keep it legal and PG. Many of the zines contain some great GA material and articles about the GA. We are not interested in posting any zines that have been copyrighted or that the owner would want removed even though legal.
