I would recommend purging thoughts of reading this comics unless you want to see bad content in all its glory
This gaffe-ridden book has Amazon natives referring to the protagonist as sahib. As you know, that is a term used in India, not the Amazon.
The final two stories both being first person told from the grave?.odd that.
Maybe the author thinks some of The East Indians who lived in British Guiana (they actually represent a significant portion of the population there) took trips deep into The Amazon, and The Amazonian tribesmen learned that term from them? There are a fair amount of them living in Brazil, as well, and lots of descendents of Japanese immigrants are there, too.
. But, IF the author DID know that Sahib comes from Hindi, then he or she should have used that funny and unexpected, interesting fact that Native Amazonian tribes picked up that term from Brazilians or Guianans of East Indian Heritage as a bit of a lighthearted humour break in the midst of heavy drama or action, rather than slipping it in without any reference to it.
Brazil is a more cosmopolitan place than a lot of people from the wealthy Western nations realise. There have been people of Japanese Heritage running for President there (one succeeded in winning that office in Peru). I have had Jewish family members living there since the 1950s (some from Russia, some from Holland, and some from Hungary), There are lots of ex-Germans and Italians there (as there are in Argentina and Uruguay).
