Frank D. Foster II

Who really created the first Batman?

There is evidence that this Batman drawing, dated 1932, was the real inspiration for the Batman attributed to Bob Kane.

It is established fact that Frank D. Foster II drew this original Batman in 1932 and in following years showed it around to the major comic publishers in New York. He was turned down by them all. But the Batman that appeared in May,1939 caused Foster to claim "They stole Batman!"

The art alone on this site is a must see! Enjoy! -B.  :)

I can imagine that with the creative excitement of the era that these guys were falling over each other with similar ideas, art styles, etc. -- it had to be very lucrative for the lawyers at times.  ;D ;D ;D

I discussed this on my blog quite some time ago. There's a lot of holes in the theory, mainly because of the dates and what he does and doesn't list as inspirations.
