MARVEL UK THE MIGHTY WORLD OF BRITISH BRONZE AGE MARVEL
« on: January 01, 2022, 05:34:27 AM »

Many of us are familiar with the US output of Marvel, not so much with the work done exclusively for the UK.
Here is a link which has information, covers and inside pages from the Marvel UK books.

Cheers!

One thing to remember in all of this is that American comics were distributed in the UK and had been since 1959.  So the British Marvel reprints were in direct competition with spinners full of original Marvel titles.  The problem for the "real" editions was that the reader couldn't be sure of picking up the next issue of a title. In some part, that was the reason for the (relative) success of the British reprints. I never bought them, preferring to go around all the local corner shops to check their spinners.
Also there were some original British created Marvel strips in the British reprint titles.  Well worth a look.

I must have had every one of these uk reprints, from Spider-Man Weekly issue 2 up to Hulk Weekly. The Black Knight strip in Hulk Weekly is a must for Captain Britain fans.
Just like Paw Broon, I also trudged around from corner shop to corner shop in search of the originals... a short interrupted run of four or five consecutive issues was a rare and wonderful thing :)

Steve Dillon drew a short, original Ant Man story and a long, original Nick Fury run in Hulk. And very nice they are too.  ;)
