Centaur Wham #2
« on: August 18, 2010, 03:52:08 PM »

I've tried to download Centaur's Wham #2, but every time I try, my CBR states 'Cannot Open File'.

I had a similar problem once I believe. The Reader I was using could not open a ".cbr" file if it was actually a ".cbz", or vice versa. Try renaming the extension and opening again.

I will give it a poke tonight, beowulf, and see what ails it.

OK, beowulf. First, your download should be named Wham_002.zip and be 50,374 Kb.  We have had some recent trouble with downloads terminating prematurely, so make sure you got the entirety of the file.

Secondly, the file is a .zip file and needs to be renamed .cbz.  If Windows is not set up to display the file extensions, you need to change this.  In the explorer window go to Tools/Folder Options, select the middle tab 'View', and de-select the check next to the option 'Hide extensions for known file types'.

Once you have renamed the file, you should be good to go.

Thanks, Builderboy. I re-named the file into CBZ, but I got the same 'cannot open file' message from my cbr and "not a valid Zip archive" from the cd reader. Is there anything else I should try?

Tried again a couple of times, the file size comes out to 50,362. So it looks like I'm getting an incomplete download.

Questions not asked dept.
1) mac or pc (vista, xp, etc)
2) isp
3) have you been able to download a complete copy of this file
4) What exact reader program did you use in an attempt to read the file

FYI -- I just downloaded the complete file and opened it with CDisplay, encountering no problems.

The file is not bad, but something on your end is not jiving fully with the download.

I just tested the download, too, and it worked just fine. Got the .zip file and renamed it .cbz and opened it in CDisplay. Voila!

Hey,

I thought I'd toss my 2 cents in here, since I just noticed this thread, and I remembered a similar experience some time ago on DCM (which I believe uses the same "engine" to send files to users). I was also getting a truncated file for a particular download, and the file was truncated by the same amount on multiple download attempts. Others were able to download the file just fine. I couldn't figure out what I was doing differently... but then I found a difference. I had recently switched to Google Chrome as my browser! I fired up Firefox and reattempted the download, and got the file just fine!

Now, I love Chrome dearly, and I've never had a problem downloading from any other sites with it. But apparently there is some interaction between Chrome and the software here.

And even if you're not using Chrome, maybe you're using a different browser than the people who aren't having the problem. So be sure to mention what browser/version you are using if you experience the problem.

Hope this helps...

Thanks to all. I'll just keep hitting it with a hammer on my end. I haven't had a problem with any other file I've tried from this site.

Hopefully someone comes along who can figure it out...if you figure it out please share so that we can add it to our bag of tricks.

And I really do apologize that you cannot open this one. Do you need it emailed to you? If so, I can give it a shot.

Send me a message if so.

PS: I'm off to NFL night with the cousins. I will check in later tonight. Ya'll be good!  ;D

Hooray for Zoidberg! I finally made it work (there was much wiggling of rabbit ears and jiggling of handles).

Thank you all for helping out a computer ignoramus such as I.
