Missiion statement?
« on: October 13, 2023, 10:48:33 PM »

It has occurred to me that it would be beneficial to CB+ to publish a statement outlining why CB+ exists, what the intention of the founders was, what actions we might take, which will fit within those intentions and which don't. Everything grows and changes, but it's important to to keep identity, to have some definite parameters to keep within.
I've looked at definitions of Mission statements and here offer an amended definition. Amended, in that this is a non-profit, volunteer site, not a profit-oriented company.
Mission Statement Explained: How It Works and Examples

For a group like CB+, this is how I would explain the idea.

  What Is a Mission Statement?

A mission statement is used to explain, in simple and concise terms, a group or organization's purpose(s) for being. The statement is generally short, either a single sentence or a short paragraph.

Quote
A group’s mission statement defines its culture, values, ethics, fundamental goals, and agenda. Furthermore, it defines how each of these applies to the group's stakeholders—in this case, its employees, volunteers and the community at large.

The statement reveals what the group/organization does, how it does it, and why it does it. Prospective stakeholders may also refer to the mission statement to see if the values of the company align with theirs.

Drafting a Mission Statement

While it may be difficult to narrow down the focus of your organization  in a single statement, here are some tips to help you write a good mission statement;-
>  First, outline what your organization does.[or doesn't do]
> Next, describe how your group does what it does. Instead of being technical—that's not the point here—think of what values go into the core of your business.
> Finally, include why you do what you do in your mission statement. This is key. It helps you stand out,  highlighting what sets you apart from the others in your industry. [Comic books] Remember to keep the mission statement short and to the point.
Quote
An organization’s mission is its identity, and its vision is its journey to accomplishing its mission.
Take as long as it needs to craft the right statement to describe the mission.[Reason for existing]

Lastly,
Quote
Once a mission statement is crafted, it's up to the company to make it publicly known. A mission statement only holds value if it is shared with existing and potential customers, vendors, donors, or employees.

The statement should be posted via a link on the homepage.
Cheers!

Hi, Panther. Technically speaking, don't we already have a mission statement at the bottom of the page? Are you thinking we should expand on it, or reword it?

All the best

I have mentioned this on another thread (that it is on the footer) and how I like to think the unofficial one is to "have fun and help you waste your time".
