Hello, I am from the US and only 24 and while I have not really ever read comics I am interested in older comics and would enjoy recommendations as I don’t know where to start! :) glad to be here.

Hi,

do you have any particular types of comics you're interested in - superhero, detective, science fiction, horror, comedy...? You say you're new, so maybe the type of movies, TV or books you enjoy would help.

That said, there's a reading group (you'll find it further down in this forum) where people read the same comics and discuss them. There's a new group of comics every two weeks, and the next one starts on Monday. You'll get some people to chat with. Or you could look back at previous reading groups and see if the discussions attract your interest.

Other than that, there's a lot to read! Have fun!

I’m open to anything especially horror and superhero stuff. I enjoy books that are thrillers, horror, fantasy, and sci-fi, and sometimes a little romance.

You might like Dick Briefer's Frankenstein - it wanders about in its genre, ranging from whimsical to quite horrific, and for a time he acquires a superhero opponent. He originally appeared in Prize Comics as one of a number of features, but luckily these have been gathered together in the compilations section as a single book at https://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=88879 (it's almost complete! The comics are old and not all of them have been found, but I think there's only one story missing). After that, he moved to his own title which is in the Prize section of the comic books area (Prize Comics is a company, who also published a comic called Prize Comics). I enjoyed this character the first time I encountered him.

A straight-forward superhero is The Green Mask - he's a street-level masked man who deals often with regular villains (petty criminals and gangsters). There's a whole bunch of compilations for him (well, actually them - there's two different Green Masks, one taking over from the other). Like Frankenstein, he appeared in anthology comics as well as his self-titled book, so the compilations are probably easier to follow.

A actual super-powered hero I'd suggest is The Ray. He doesn't have his own title or any compilations, so you'd need to pick through Smash Comics to find his stories. Great art!

Hi,

I'm also 24, I can't speak for any of the other series but I can recommend at least a few romance issues. If you like the traditionally set romances then Love Diary, Love Journal, Darling Love and Brides in Love have been a treat for me. They're very old-fashioned but so romantic as long as you view them through that lens.

Welcome to CB+ Shreder856.
Where to start?  always difficult, so try Plastic Man.  Zany, funny, superhero antics:-

Excellent superhero stuff in Tower comics short run.  Thunder Agents; Dynamo; No-Man; Undersea Agent:-

In the British section have a look at Super Detective Library, pocket libraries many of which feature good art and some excellent stories, particularly Blackshirt and Leslie Shane:-

We have a lot of western titles on site and Fawcett produced some very good, if not very demanding, examples;-

Too many others to mention.  Please let us all know if you find something that tickles your fancy.
