No kidding. I've had to "BAN" 4 new "members" in one day today.  What's wrong with this site? Isn't there some kind of security thing where you can ask a question to determine whether new people are allowed in or not?

I think they made me a moderator because they're too busy to police the site themselves...   ;)

The upgrade should be unfurled in a couple of weeks and it has some spam control and the allows uploading. We should be able to get this site fired up after that.

Welcome to what we've been dealing with for quite some time Henry.  There've been days where I've had to zap ten or twelve of the boogers.

However as Narf mentioned Mark is working hard to upgrade the site and if all goes as planned we should have a much better spam filter more along the lines of what DCM already has which should significantly reduce their presence here.

BTW, enjoyed the Monty Python reference.

Best

Hi Henry,

The spammers are even more than a nuisance,  alfje has recently removed some very unsavory and illegal links. So I am on their case, they have only days to live.

If you look in the staff room section you'll find the discussions and also some links you might be interested in ;)

Best regards,

Mark

So far, the most annoying part of the problem, for me, is when I'm actually "banning" someone.  It seems to take a full minute-- or two-- for it go go through.

I usually have another browser open so I can do something else while I'm waiting.

Ditto, but mostly only when the culprits are still logged in and I get them while "doing it".
Gives me time to get me a cup of coffee in the meantime though.

Just a couple of weeks back:
First there was someone who posted about pregnancy tests, right after that another one who advertised for a wedding photographer and after that you could contact 'someone' if you needed to make a 'financial arrangement.

When you read them one after the other it tells a story and I consider it as humor.......... or is it just me.  ;D

I find deleting them almost instantaneous. I have had them pop up between my refreshing unread posts. So it is fun to nix them before they even get a chance.

Not instantaneous for me either.  Takes time.  At first I thought it was this old machine I'm on now, with its old processor but it takes the same time on Linda's new laptop.  Fortunately, there are other things to do while waiting.  Most enjoyable is bagging and boadring

I think North Korea forces it prisoners to do that.
