Please help!!
« on: December 31, 2013, 12:57:14 AM »

I love this site, but just got let down. I was looking up comics and there was this very rude 'ad' I suppose for 'art' involving almost nude women. "League of Angels" is the name. Is there a 'good' reason for this? Please don't let 'porn' type junk into such a great site. How will our next generation grow to admire our history when we fill them with trash that doesn't add to but take away from the honor that most comic/cartoonist art portray?

I haven't seen the ad in question but will keep my eye for it. We do not run adult ads and in fact even things like dating (unless they slip through). I googled the name and looked at the official site. It looks legit enough some sort of browser based game. A lot of fantasy art, which is certainly not to my taste. But I would venture is actually quiet tame compared to some of the golden age covers we hold.

Anyway I will keep an extra special eye out for any rude stuff (it's a tough job but I think I am up to it :))

  Thank you.
I am a father, as well as a cartoonist, and I teach my children the importance of purity. Not only in intent but in what they put in their heads. I know there are some old covers and stories here that I would not read or recommend, but the value in what is here that IS good entertainment brings value to my enjoyment of being a cartoonist. My children do not get on this site, but their Daddy does, and I want to set a good example for them AND other Fathers who have the same 'values'. We don't need, what those who wind up corrupting our society, and messing up their lives, as well as others' lives, need. We need clean, humorous, and old style mystery, and excitement, and adventures and enjoyable reading, not nasty-mind-corrupting trash.
I do not judge anyone, I am just trying to encourage the 'old' way of honor. And I know you don't always have control over the ads that pop up.
There, I am getting off my soap box.
  Still love the site.

Yes, please get off your soap box. I don't need your preachings. You must keep your children in a cave. Really, in today's society how can you keep such narrow minded views. Sure you want your children to have strong moral values, but what you are saying here is somewhat on the silly side don't you think? These ad's are decades old. And as you have said yourself you don't allow your children on here so why the screed? If you have a problem with certain content here, keep it to yourself ok? Personally I think your a bit wacko. Now back to reading the good old smut in them thar golden age books. Lol.

I think it's pretty hard for sites to control what ads pop up. It seems like it's all based on your cookies. I notice that the ads that pop up for me are based on what they think will appeal to me. Ads for things of local interest seem to pop up and I doubt ads for Simon Fraser University are popping up in the U.K. So it's gotta be my cookies that are leading these ads like bread crumbs to my intenet connection.

Clearing your cookies might help, or investing in some major blocking software. But you can't really hold this site responsible for the ways of the internet. And the site does have to make money through advertising to stay up. As it is I don't think anyone is making a profit from keeping this site available to us. It's probably costing some volunteers quite a lot of money.

I get pop up ads promoting the Northern Gateway Pipeline--I'm severely offended by those ads, more than I would be by ads for some entertainment--but I'm not going to hold anyone on this site responsible for that. That would be crazy.

  Ooops.
Guess I shoulda done this 'personally' to Mr. Warner. Didn't think there would be any one here who would comment. I am pretty new at this stuff.
Nothing personal, but I wasn't talking about the 'decades old' ads in the comics(?). If you are gonna comment about my issue, (which Mr. Warner has handled), please read the other statements I made other than the last one. The ad had live women in scant bikini type outfits that were on the side of the page.
I am sorry you think so badly about moral people that you would think I 'keep (my) children in a cave', by protecting them. It's our job as parents to guide our children to live right and not fall prey to the immoral 'monsters' out there that want them to grow up and be one of them. That is why our prisons are full. They haven't been guided right. Perversion produces real good 'monsters', and is addictive.
Back to my cave. (Hoping there are other Dads out here that care.)
