I just want to sound people out a bit here.
I'm getting near the end of what I have to scan in my boxes of random PD GA books. But, since I like the idea of scanning books I've already started working on getting new items to scan. In general, I don't have any real interest in scanning non-PD books.
So, I've been buying some comics recently with the idea of scanning them specifically in mind.
My first project was the Mayer issues of The Funnies; even before I started scanning whole books. But I wanted to share at least the Mayer material from the start. Luckily, Toro7Tetoro had already started the project and JonTheScanner finished where I left off; unless I spot a copy of the cover of 22 any issues I buy are purely for myself now.
My second targeted effort was Animal Comics; Jon is in the wings to pick that up once I stumble but I'm still working on getting the issues for myself. (I can't believe the early appearances of a fairly major character are as cheap as those are; I expect a correction within the next few years.) So that's fun, and I've got more on the way, but other than a copy of 1 it's something that will finish up with our without me. Still, it's another run where I'm going to be one of the major scanners of the title and it's another one where I take pride in making it available; if it's PD it _should_ be out there for people to get.
More importantly, I'm starting to work on getting myself a third (and possibly fourth and fifth and...) project. Unlike the first two, I'm a lot more interested in making sure it's something others want to see; not just something I'm doing for myself. My current project is, at least tentatively, Authentic Police Cases. It seems to have a lot of good points: It's relatively uncommon and obscure; not much has been scanned yet; it's expensive enough that it's not an easy to get book but cheap enough that I can actually afford most if not all the issues over time. Most importantly, about 3/4 of the issues have rarely seen Matt Baker art. And for the most part, even the non-Baker material is better than average for pre-code books; St. John may not have been anywhere near EC's level but it was a hell of a lot better and more consistent than a lot of publishers of that era.
So, here are my questions (Finally, those of you who are still reading say!):
1) Do people want to see my try and make a project out of Authentic Police Cases? (I'm not really interested in "No" in an answer unless you have some specific argument or reason; but I want to make sure there's an interest before I go much further than the few I've already got on the way. I don't want to bother if at least a few people won't say they _do_ view it as an appealing project.)
2) Are there any other titles people might suggest as projects for me to look for? My basic requirements are about what I listed for APC; not too common or cheap, not too rare or expensive, some "hook" (such as lots of a certain artist) to make it appealing as a whole, PD, and mostly not yet scanned. I'm sure there are lots of titles like that still out there; even if I get support on APC there will be an early flurry of books I can find and afford and then it will slow way down. I hit APC as a project mostly by accident due to a couple of stray comments on the boards and spotting a few affordable issues; I think it's a good project but it's not one I ever would have though of to look for completely on my own.
