Three Stooges by St John -- Jungle Jim by Standard
« on: September 03, 2008, 02:51:04 PM »

I have Jungle Jim (Standard) #14 and Three Stooges (St john) #1 which are old enough to qualify, but the properties are owned by others so they may not be public domain.

What's the verdict?

Jon

Hi Jon,
Sadly health issues will be keeping Aussie away from the site for the next while.  As she's the only expert on these things I think it best to play it safe and not share them on the site.  Sorry.   :-\

Sorry to hear that Aussie is unwell, lets all hope that she has a speedy recovery and is back with us again before too long.

Healing is coming along fine, although l spent the last few days sleeping most of the time. The Three Stooges as far as l can see should be OK, the Jungle Jim is licensed from King Features and is not public domain.

Salve (my first post)
then Three Stooges-St John is in public domain, and don't have rights of C3 Entertainment?
Best regards :)

C3 Entertainment, might own the Three Stooges brand, and copyrights on fairly recent productions across a range of formats, but none of the early GA material in any form was renewed that l can see. Even if the comics were licensed at the time, the comics would be OK for us to host. Owning the rights to a character does not mean you automatically own all material ever printed that involved that character, even if you brought the rights to publish the old material, without a copyright renewal or a license agreement from the owner of a still current copyright, l do not see how legally the "owner" of a character can prevent us hosting the comics.
