Those wonderful All Tops Comics...
« on: September 23, 2008, 04:39:34 AM »

Trying to learn something here.

The recent AllTop Comics each have a splash page containing a single color instead of the multihues and what looks to be a stain or bleedyhru from the front cover near as I can tell.

Are these single color splash pages part of the original display properties or is this something that happened over time and aging?

Thanks.

The covers were generally printed in two colors; they haven't washed out the other two colors over time in different shades depending on the book!

The bleed-through, I don't know.  It's pretty common from what I've seen, but if the books shipped like that or the bleed-through happened over the years I haven't a clue.

Fox always used the inside front cover for the splash page Rez.  Check any other non-reprint Fox books and you'll see.  B&W and a single colour.  Really stupid idea IMO, no clue why they didn't follow the normal practise of having an ad there.
And when IW-Super reprinted them later they cared so little about the actual books that they didn't even bother with the splash pages.  That's why OtherEric's Phantom Lady 23 (Great Action 09) is missing the first splash.  :(

The dropped splash / first pages may not have been because IW / Super didn't care, though I imagine they didn't.  A lot of times, perhaps most of them, they had plates to the insides of the books but not the covers.  Ergo, they didn't have the plate for the first page of the story, and couldn't reprint it.  On at least one of the Great Action covers, they tried to make up for that by starting the story on the cover.
