A somewhat odd, two-pronged question:

I'm down to the last 20 or so books in my "to scan" pile; and while I expect to slow down somewhat I plan to keep getting books to scan.  I already have more than enough projects in general; but I also want to get some very cheap (for GA) books in the 5-15 dollar range to 'bulk up' my to scan pile again.  All of the following titles have pretty big holes on GAC and at least a handful of issues I could pick up copies for cheap.  I want to know a) does anybody know of issues from these titles that have already been scanned that we don't have on GAC, and b) can anybody suggest other titles I might add to the list:

Big Shot Comics
Black Diamond Western
Crime Does Not Pay
Crime and Punishment
Four Most
Target Comics
Jungle Comics
Jumbo Comics

(OK, the last two are closer to 15-20; but I don't think anybody will really complain  )

Eric, what I'll do is go thru my 'to scan' pile and post the books here

so your spending money will be better directed to building the site by going after books that have no known possibility of getting scanned on here, as far as my twobits are involved anyhow.

It's just it takes so long to finish a scan or I'd have them all up here already.

What I'll probably end up doing after extinguishing the main pile is closing up in the old romance box as the go to whenever it becomes scantime.

However, seeing the arrival of jim and his collection to the site it's got me to thinking of checking with some pen and ink illustrator friends to see what they might have in their files that could be scanned.

Sometime I'd like to see a scan of that pamphlet grouping Yellow Kid appearences mentioned in Chapter One of Les Daniels 'Comix A History of Comic Books in America'.

Agreed; that's why I asked about those titles before I went spending money on them.  But with GA books, there is a lot out there in the "who knows when or if it would show up" category; and I think looking for cheap but unscanned books is a prudent use of some of my book budget.  I've also done some more targeted looking for books we need here; like the Phantom Ladys or the Captain Marvel 44.

I'll sort out what numbers I have when I can and get back to you.

Also Jungle Comics_029 has been scanned by my good self and should be showing up here next month.

A virtually complete run of Black Diamond Western was in JVJ's list, so that should not be a priority to purchase.  I think only one issue (#42?) was missing.  Note the series starts with #9 or so -- being continued from Desperados.

Good thread here.  I'll toss some ideas out here if you like.

I believe other than Nigel's Targets everything that has been scanned is now up on the site so go chase those missing books for sure!  The same for 4 Most as well.  Everything I know of for scans is on GAC.
Big Shot is only interesting to me for Skyman and The Face though I know there are some than enjoy the bigfooted Spark Watts out there.
Blue Bolt would be of interest but I'm betting the early issues wouldn't be cheap.  Early Simon art in those.  The later horror issues are fun though.  Great covers.
I notice crime books don't seem quite as popular as the mystery men or horror titles here.  Not sure exactly why, some can be pretty good.

I'm guessing COMICMEDIA would be a cheaper company to collect though they are in the 50s.
HOLYOKE has some fun titles but no clue on their prices.
Key Comics we only need #2 and 4 to have the complete run.
PRIZE published some good titles (Frankenstein!) but are they expensive given the Simon&Kirby or Meskin presence?
I expect SPARK titles would have the same problem because of Mac Raboy and Meskin as well.  Golden Lad and Green Lama being their best known titles.
ZIFF-DAVIS can be cheap.  Their Weird Thrillers title had some goofy but fun painted cover.

Well, I'm keeping an eye out for some things like the Frankenstein and Prize books; but they're more expensive and scarcer than I expected.  Like I said, this list is to pad out my "to scan" pile; I'll keep looking for higher-value books when I can. 

Green Lama, hmm.  Not for the cheap pile, but those might be worth looking for...

Here's a quick update on whats on my 'to scan' pile,  I have'nt been able to put my hands on the three Big Shots I have but I know they were all POST WAR issues and one of them marked Ogden Whitney's return to the Skyman series following his release from Military Service, full details on these issues later.

Looking at my collection of Blue Bolt and Target Comics issues I have three each of these but in a couple of cases someone beat me to it as regards scanning them leaving only the following to do AFAIK.

Blue Bolt_V2_006 and # V4_006

Target Comics_V4_012 and # V7_012

Right now i'm all 'scanned out' having just finished winding up a marathon run of a 'certain' British Weekly not to mention Speed Comics_041.

Next I want to finish up my outstanding Quality and Fiction House titles before moving on to other imprints.

Feeling a bit run down just now but i'm sure a little bit of Karma might help revive me  a little !

Believe it or not, BOY COMICS is one of the cheaper titles on eBay.  Possibly because the character of Crimebuster was never revived (outside of AC Comics) and though it had some good artists (and great writing), nobody knows from Charlie Biro these days.  They would if Steranko had ever pubbed his third volume of comics history, though.  Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there.

GOOD NEWS on the 'Blue Bolt' front, I've just come across another comple of issues that don't seem to be on the site yet although strangley I have scanned one of these books already and took it for granted that it was already here.

Volume Four, Number Eleven is the one that looks to have slipped through the net but with any luck it will soon be 'caught'

Volume Seven, Number Seven seems to be another candidate for the scanning pile.

The Three 'Big Shot Comics' that I have are: 067, 068, and 095.

One of my great hopes when this site was first set up was to see a COMPLETE run of Police Comics made available to everyone, this looks like it could well happen before long.

Another 'target' of mine was a FULL run of Feature Comics being a big Dollman fan.

I DID have a BIG stack of these books to scan once but while I was beavering away with Police Comics and other projects many of these were done by 'other hands' ( but not always in paper) before I had a chance to get to them however I still have a few remaining to deal with; 088, 093, 095, 097, 123, and 127.

If anymore gaps couple be filled in this series it would be no bad thing.

Feature Comics from Quality is a very good title to try for.  Most of the later issues have been scanned from paper and the early issues from fiche.

My records indicate that all issues from 80 to the end of the run have been scanned or are owned by HP, Rolster, Phabox, or myself except for #135.  Before 80 it appears that
27(inc) 44(inc) 53 55 59 66 68 69 72 78 79 haven't been located at all and
23 25 31 33 34 38 41 49 57 63 have only fiche scans.  (There are a few other fiche scans for which someone has a paper copy).

Feature Funnies (#1-19) is less complete.

While were at it, if anyone could find:  Candy 11* 14, All Humor 10, Hickory 3 5, and/or Barker 4(inc scan), 13, they'd have my undying gratitude.

*All I need from Candy #11 is two centerfolds so a coverless copy would be great as well.

Phabox knows of course that ANY books that have already been scanned as FICHE are very much still wanted as paper scans replacements!  So we hope one day he will scan those Feature Comics of his.

I've got a partial of Feature Funnies 16 I'll get around to scanning someday soon; it's missing the cover and 1st two wraps but anything will help- I can fill with fiche, and the Clock and Espionage (by Eisner) stories are intact.   (I had ordered an issue of the funnies with pages known to be missing for the cover since I had a coverless copy; this is what I got.  Since it was cheap and I wound up with my issue of the funnies complete, I grumbled for a few minutes and then figured it really counted as a bonus for me.)

Right now I think the only paper copy of Feature Comics that I have that is here in Fiche is # 095 but I WILL check the rest of my collection in due course.
