September 1: Benito Mussolini orders all Jews who had entered Italy since January 1, 1919 to get out within six months. The order affects some 10,000 people.

September 5: The annual Nuremberg Rally begins in Germany. This will be the last Nazi Party Congress ever held.

September 12: Hitler makes a bombastic speech in Nuremberg declaring that the oppression of Sudeten Germans must end. The speech is broadcast live to the United States by CBS Radio and is the first time that many Americans had ever heard Hitler speak.

September 15: British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain boards a plane for the first time in his life and flies to Berchtesgaden to meet with Adolf Hitler. Chamberlain has already decided not to go to war over Czechoslovakia, so all that is left to negotiate is the means of meeting Hitler's demands.

September 16: Neville Chamberlain reports to the Cabinet on his meeting with Hitler, informing its members of his belief that a settlement of the Sudeten matter will satisfy Hitler's aims.

September 19: The British and French representatives in Prague present the Anglo-French proposal to allow the Sudetenland to be annexed.

September 20: The Czechoslovak government rejects the Anglo-French proposal in a note explaining that acceptance would mean that Czechoslovakia will be put 'sooner or later under the complete domination of Germany.'

September 22: Neville Chamberlain returns to Germany and meets with Hitler again for two days at Bad Godesberg. Hitler is much more bellicose than before and demands to occupy the Sudetenland by October 1 with all of the region's military equipment left intact.

September 29: German Führer Adolf Hitler, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain, French Prime Minister Édouard Daladier and Italian Duce Benito Mussolini meet in Munich to settle the Sudetenland crisis. Czechoslovakia is not invited, neither is the Soviet Union.

September 30: The four powers at Munich agree that Czechoslovakia will cede the Sudetenland to Germany by October 10. The territorial integrity of the rest of Czechoslovakia is guaranteed by all signatories.
