| This is actually a close adaptation of the novel, "The Private Practice of Michael Shayne." I would have sworn I had seen it before, as a movie or TV show, but no, I had recently read the novel and it stuck in my mind. Like I said, a close adaptation. |

| Great tip, Crash – many thanks! I loved the use of language –‘the banshee scream of skidding tyres.’ Fifties hardboiled detectives – I love all that stuff. Nice work from Edd Ashe on the art front. I found the plot a bit hard to follow – so many characters and it moves so quickly – but I got there on the second read-through.
I think there are pages missing from the second story.
This has prompted me to read more Brett Halliday – someone who slipped beneath the radar on my book list. |

| I find it curious that Brett Halliday does not seem to be mentioned at all in the comic (I skimmed thru it, so if I missed a reference, my bad).
There was a Mike Shayne TV series in 1960 starring Richard Denning, so that may have in part inspired the look of Mike Shayne in the comic (I think in the novels he has red hair), although he actually looks more like Forrest Tucker than Denning. |
