Joe Simon and Jack Kirby are credited with creating a new comic book genre, romance comics.
In 1947 their "teen-humor" comic named My Date, was published by Hillman. The title was favorablty received
and led the pair to stike a highly lucrative deal with Crestwood. It was agreed that they could receive 50% of the profits
for a follow up title.
Simon and Kirby moved quickly and in the same year "Young Romance" was published under the Crestwood imprint, Prize Comics.
It was an immediate hit, romance comics had arrived in a big way. Within 18 months the duo began launching other
titles such as "Young Love", "Young Brides" and "In Love". The other major companies moved into the market and soon
there were a glut of titles. Despite the flooded market Simon and Kirby still dominated and at the peak their titles
were selling millions of copies every month.
We have 273 titles and 4,533 issues in our 'Romance Category' for you to enjoy.
