"Beyond the Call of Duty" was a great surprise to me. If Frank Frazetta hadn't signed it I wouldn't have recognised it as his work. By contrast, "Memorable Memorial Day" is classic Frazetta - extremely well-drawn, especially the men's faces, which are reminiscent of Hal Foster's style.
   By
'Beyond the Call of Duty' looks more like Frank Miller than Frazetta. Frazetta was obviously trying for a very gritty look for the story. It works and It's actually very impressive.

I wonder if Frazetta was trying to emulate Jack Davis on Beyond The Call Of Duty? Some of it seems to have a Davis quality.
   By
Scrounge, Funny you should reference Jack Davis. I was also thinking some of it has a John Severin look, and Severin and Davis worked together back then. Cheers!

You kids are trippin', the first one is frazettish enough. Actually it's better drawn than the other one, more adventurous, you can tell he had a bit of fun there, just more interesting visually (never mind the subject matter). And frankly, Frank Miller is the most overrated guy in comics after Artsie Spiegelman.
