Interesting and informative on a subject most of us would never think to consider. An American example of how early comics could be so educational for young readers and older ones alike. The Rover was one British example which also endeavoured to educate as well as entertain its readers.

It would be interesting to imagine how such a topic would be handled today. The fact that slaves were historically used in the growing of cotton would no doubt not be tossed off as a historical fact but would be required to become the focal point of the entire book. However, this would be difficult in a book intended to promote and create a positive image of the use of cotton as a fabric. Always a dilemma when you become obsessed with the negative aspects of history rather than celebrating the positive.
