I have to admit that I've always been curious about this cover. Hitler's face looks like a photo paste-up, but... just look at that expression. It seems really unlikely that they'd be able to find a genuine photo of Hitler with that expression. So what then is going on there, exactly? Posed "Hitler impersonator"? A genuine photo creatively altered using a little airbrushing? It really is baffling to me.

A large photo of Hitler was used in creating the cover, which is credited to 'Woodro', the pen name of Bob Wood, a regular artist for Lev Gleason Publications.

Looks to me like they took a photo of Hitler and re-drew his eyes. The mouth and the tilt of the eyebrows are rather neutral without the bugged-out eyes.

Well, yes the eyes are drawn-in, that much is obvious. But ...

@crashryan - You really think the mouth and eyebrows look "neutral"?  That's what really convinced me that something just didn't look right about a standard news service photo of A.H. that would have been generally available, without some alteration. Even covering the eyes themselves, the slant of the brows has a worried expression, and that little smirk at the corner of the mouth (plus the area below his lower lip) gives Adolph a dismayed expression that it wouldn't seem he'd be caught dead wearing in public.
