Ted Dustin and "Maza of the Moon"
« on: November 17, 2009, 12:45:17 PM »

The recent bombardment of the moon with probes to discover Lunar ice deposits, (man thats such a cool thing to be able to write for real) brings to mind one of the Golden age Comics I read as a youngster.
Otis Albert Kline was a contemporary of Edgar Rice Burroughs and wrote a number of stories that were similar in many ways to ERB's non Tarzan works, Maza of the Moon being one of the best of these.

Anyway I'm wondering just what comic I may have read the illustrated version in. It was a very well drawn comic. The Dustin story is the only one I remember from that particular comic.
I'd like to find a download of it, reading that story is a real happy memory I'd like to repeat.

Edited to add

Great luck, I found an auction site that listed the comic I was looking for, I then checked under the downloads for Avon Comics and found it in the list as a one off. The file is labeled as a IW reproduction.

The artwork seems somehow different from my memory, but its been a great many years since I read this for the first time.
Its an excellent piece, far more interesting than the average sci fi comic of the era.

Yep it was great reading this one again after so many decades had passed.
One panel was a real treat, good ol Ted walking up behind the bad guy that was fencing with Maza and simply blowing his head clean off from behind, not your run of the mill hero type action. The bad guy's collar looked like a smoking crater LOL.
